To vote in California, you must be registered or have your registration up to date.

• Changed your name

• Changed your party preference

• Vote-by-mail ballots are mailed starting in early May

• Early in-person voting begins several weeks before Election Day

• Ballots must be postmarked or returned by Election Day

November 3, 2026

• Vote-by-mail ballots are mailed in early October

• Early in-person voting is available

• Ballots must be postmarked or returned by Election Day

California conducts elections primarily by mail, but voters may also vote in person.

Vote by Mail

• Every registered voter receives a ballot by mail

• Return by mail or drop off at an official drop box

 

Vote in Person

• Vote early at a local vote center

• Vote on Election Day at your assigned location
